Jamadagnir uvāca: sthiraṁ cāpi calaṁ cāpi jāne tvāṁ jñānacakṣuṣā | avaśyaṁ vinayādhānaṁ kāryam adya mayā tava ||
Jamadagni said: “Whether your aim is steady or wavering, I recognize you with the eye of true knowledge—you are the Sun. Therefore, today I must certainly administer discipline to you, so that you become established in humility and proper conduct.”
भीष्म उवाच
Even when one possesses great power or brilliance (symbolized by the Sun), one must be guided by vinaya—humility and disciplined conduct; correction and restraint are presented as a legitimate duty when they establish ethical behavior.
Jamadagni addresses a being he identifies as the Sun through spiritual insight, and declares that he will impose discipline (a corrective measure) to instill proper humility and conduct.
