Vṛṣādarbhī–Saptarṣi Dialogue
गणित: पज्चवीर्यश्रु आदित्यो रश्मिवांस्तथा । सप्तकृत् सोमवर्चाश्च विश्वकृत् कविरेव च
gaṇitaḥ pañcavīryaśru ādityo raśmivāṁs tathā | saptakṛt somavarcāś ca viśvakṛt kavir eva ca ||
Bhīṣma said: “He is called Gaṇita; he is also Pañcavīryaśru; he is Āditya, the radiant one; and Raśmivān, ‘possessed of rays’. He is further known as Saptakṛt, Somavarcā, ‘moon-lustrous’, Viśvakṛt, ‘maker of all’, and Kavi, ‘the wise seer’.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse models devotional and ethical remembrance through nāma-saṅkīrtana: enumerating divine epithets that highlight radiance, creative power, and wisdom, encouraging reverence for the cosmic source that upholds order (dharma).
In Bhīṣma’s instruction, he recites a sequence of honorific names/epithets—solar, lunar, creative, and sage-like—functioning as a litany of praise within his broader discourse on righteous conduct and sacred observances.
