Bhīṣma said: “One who manufactures or manipulates documents, an informer, a betrayer of friends, a seducer of another man’s wife, a teacher who instructs those who live without vows or discipline, and likewise one who strikes from behind—these are to be recognized as base and blameworthy types of conduct.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse lists socially and morally condemned behaviors—betraying friends, adultery, informing for harm, deceitful fabrication, teaching the undisciplined for improper ends, and attacking from behind—highlighting that dharma requires loyalty, restraint, honesty, and straightforward conduct.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma continues his instruction on dharma, enumerating types of people and actions considered ignoble, as part of a broader ethical discourse to guide righteous living.
