वेदाक्ष॒ सोपनिषदो विद्या सावित्र्यथापि च । भूतं भव्यं भविष्यं च दधार भगवान् शिव:
vedākṣa sopaniṣado vidyā sāvitrī athāpi ca | bhūtaṁ bhavyaṁ bhaviṣyaṁ ca dadhāra bhagavān śivaḥ ||
Vasiṣṭha said: “The Vedas, together with their Upaniṣads, and the sacred learning—along with Sāvitrī as well—were present there. And the Blessed Lord Śiva bore within himself the threefold stream of time: what has been, what is, and what is yet to come.”
वसिष्ठ उवाच
The verse elevates Śiva as the cosmic ground who sustains all time—past, present, and future—while also affirming the sanctity of Vedic revelation (Vedas with Upaniṣads), spiritual knowledge (vidyā), and the Sāvitrī/Gāyatrī tradition as converging in the divine presence.
Vasiṣṭha describes a sacred scene where the highest scriptural authorities (Vedas and Upaniṣads), embodied knowledge (vidyā), and Sāvitrī are present, and he portrays Śiva as encompassing the entire flow of time, underscoring Śiva’s supreme, all-sustaining status.
