Bhīṣma said: “Thus gold came into being as the offspring of Agni, the knower of all births. Among the varieties of gold, that called Jāmbūnada is the finest, and it serves as an ornament even for the gods.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse frames material excellence (the finest gold, Jāmbūnada) within a sacred genealogy—gold is presented as arising from Agni—suggesting that purity, value, and rightful use of precious substances are grounded in a cosmic and dharmic order.
Bhīṣma continues an explanatory discourse describing the origin of gold from Agni (Jātavedas) and then distinguishes Jāmbūnada as the श्रेष्ठ (best) variety, fit to adorn even the gods.
