Bhishma said: “Then, O delight of the Bhargava line, he departed for the desired region. Having spoken thus, the goddess Gaṅgā vanished on the spot; and the radiant god Agni, having successfully accomplished the gods’ purpose, set out from there at that time for his chosen destination. By such deeds and virtues, Agni’s name is celebrated in the world.”

Renown is grounded in karma-guṇa—virtues proven by effective, duty-aligned action. Agni is praised not merely for status but for accomplishing the gods’ task, showing that ethical worth is demonstrated through fulfilled responsibility.
After speaking, Gaṅgā vanishes (antardhāna), and Agni, having completed the gods’ work, departs for his desired destination. Bhīṣma concludes by noting that Agni’s fame in the world arises from such deeds and qualities.
