Pitṛ-śrāddha-haviḥ-phala-nirdeśa
Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
एवंरूप: स भगवान् पुत्रस्ते हव्यवाहन । सूर्यवैश्वानरसम: कान्त्या सोम इवापर:,हव्यवाहन! आपका एऐश्वर्यशाली पुत्र ऐसे ही रूपवाला है। वह सूर्य तथा आपके समान तेजस्वी और दूसरे चन्द्रमाके समान कान्तिमान् है
evaṃrūpaḥ sa bhagavān putras te havyavāhana | sūryavaiśvānara-samaḥ kāntyā soma ivāparaḥ ||
Bhishma said: “O Havyavāhana (Fire), your illustrious son is indeed of such a form. In radiance he is equal to the Sun and to Vaiśvānara (the sacred Fire), and in gentle splendor he is like another Moon.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse conveys that true excellence is recognized through auspicious qualities—radiance, splendor, and divine-like presence—used here as ethical markers of inner merit and worthy stature.
Bhishma addresses Havyavāhana (Agni) and extols Agni’s son, comparing his brilliance to the Sun and sacred Fire (Vaiśvānara) and his beauty to the Moon, thereby affirming the son’s exceptional nature.
