Chapter 85: Suvarṇasya Janma ca Pradāna-Phalam
The Origin of Gold and the Merit of Gifting
इच्छामि चापि युष्मासु वस्तुं सर्वासु नित्यदा । आगत्य प्रार्थये युष्मान् श्रीजुष्टा भवताथ वै
icchāmi cāpi yuṣmāsu vastuṁ sarvāsu nityadā | āgatya prārthaye yuṣmān śrījuṣṭā bhavatātha vai ||
Bhīṣma said: “I too desire to dwell within all of you at all times. Therefore I come to you and entreat you: take refuge in me, and thereby become endowed with Śrī—prosperity, auspiciousness, and divine fortune.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse emphasizes that prosperity and auspiciousness (Śrī) are not merely external gains but a presence that abides with those who consciously accept and uphold her—suggesting an ethical posture of receptivity, reverence, and worthy conduct to become ‘favoured by Śrī’.
In Bhīṣma’s discourse, a divine principle identified with Śrī speaks as if approaching the listeners directly, expressing the wish to reside within them continually and urging them to accept her refuge so they may become prosperous and blessed.
