Nṛga-upākhyāna: Brāhmaṇa-sva and the Consequence of Misappropriated Gift-Cattle (कृकलास-रूपे नृगोपाख्यानम्)

न श्मशानपरीतां च न च पापनिषेविताम् । जो भूमि ऊसर, जली हुई और श्मशानके निकट हो तथा जहाँ पापी पुरुष निवास करते हों, उसे ब्राह्मणको नहीं देना चाहिये
Transliteration
na śmaśānaparītāṃ ca na ca pāpaniṣevitām |
Translation
Bhīṣma said: One should not grant (as a gift, especially to a brāhmaṇa) land that lies in the vicinity of a cremation ground, nor land that is frequented or inhabited by sinful people. Such a gift is ethically improper, for it fails to provide a pure and worthy support for sacred living and rites.
