Nṛga-upākhyāna: Brāhmaṇa-sva and the Consequence of Misappropriated Gift-Cattle (कृकलास-रूपे नृगोपाख्यानम्)
इति प्रोक्त कुरुश्रेष्ठ तिलदानमनुत्तमम् | विधान येन विधिना तिलानामिह शस्यते,कुरुश्रेष्ठ! इस प्रकार जिस विधिके अनुसार तिलदान करना उत्तम माना गया है, वह सर्वोत्तम तिलदानका विधान यहाँ बताया गया
iti prokta kuruśreṣṭha tiladānam anuttamam | vidhānaṃ yena vidhinā tilānām iha śasyate kuruśreṣṭha ||
Bhishma said: “Thus, O best of the Kurus, the unsurpassed gift of sesame has been described. Here I have set forth the proper ordinance—the very procedure by which the donation of sesame is commended as meritorious, O foremost of the Kurus.”
भीष्म उवाच
That tiladāna (donation of sesame) is regarded as an especially excellent form of charity, and that its spiritual efficacy depends on following the proper vidhi (prescribed procedure) as taught by Bhīṣma.
Bhīṣma, instructing Yudhiṣṭhira in Anuśāsana Parva, concludes a section by stating that he has explained the supreme sesame-donation and the method by which it is praised as meritorious.
