Bhūmi-dānasya Māhātmya
The Pre-eminence of Land-Gift
लभते नाम लोके च पितृभिश्न महीयते । देवलोके गतस्यापि नाम तस्य न नश्यति,संसारमें उसका नाम होता है, परलोकमें पितर उसका सम्मान करते हैं तथा देवलोकमें चले जानेपर भी यहाँ उसका नाम नष्ट नहीं होता
labhate nāma loke ca pitṛbhiś ca mahīyate | devaloke gatasya api nāma tasya na naśyati ||
Such a person gains a good name in this world; in the realm of the ancestors he is honored by the Pitṛs; and even after he has gone to the world of the gods, his reputation does not perish.
भीष्म उवाच
Righteous living produces lasting honor: it brings good repute among people, reverence from the ancestors, and an enduring name even after reaching heaven—suggesting that dharma creates a legacy that outlives the body.
In the Anushasana Parva, Bhishma is instructing Yudhishthira on dharma. Here he emphasizes the multi-worldly फल (result) of virtuous conduct—social esteem in this life and continued honor in the ancestral and divine realms.
