अध्याय ५६ — च्यवन–कुशिकसंवादः
Cyavana–Kuśika Dialogue on Lineage, Conflict, and Transmission
अवतीर्य रथश्रेष्ठाद् दम्पती तौ मुमोच ह । विमोच्य चैतौ विधिवत् ततो वाक्यमुवाच ह
avatīrya rathaśreṣṭhād dampatī tau mumoca ha | vimocya caitau vidhivat tato vākyam uvāca ha ||
Bhīṣma said: “Having descended from the excellent chariot, he released that husband and wife from the burden of service. After duly setting them free in accordance with proper procedure, he then addressed them with fitting words.”
भीष्म उवाच
Power should be exercised with dharma: even when one can command or compel, one should relieve others of undue burden and proceed according to proper norms (vidhivat), speaking respectfully and justly.
A figure alights from an excellent chariot, frees a husband and wife from their assigned burden-bearing service, and then formally addresses them, indicating a lawful and considerate resolution rather than coercion.
