Ānṛśaṃsya–Bhakti: Śukaḥ Śakreṇa Parīkṣitaḥ
Compassion and Devotion—The Parrot Tested by Indra
तस्मिन् वक्षे तथाभूते कोटरेषु चिरोषित: । न जहाति शुको वासं तस्य भक्त्या वनस्पते:
tasmin vakṣe tathābhūte koṭareṣu ciroṣitaḥ | na jahāti śuko vāsaṃ tasya bhaktyā vanaspateḥ ||
Bhishma said: “When that tree had come to such a condition, a parrot that had long dwelt in its hollows still did not abandon its home. Out of devotion and attachment to that tree, the bird remained there even as it withered—illustrating steadfast loyalty and gratitude that does not desert its support in times of decline.”
