Vivāha-dharma: Kanyā-pradāna, Śulka, and Pāṇigrahaṇa-niṣṭhā (अनुशासन पर्व, अध्याय ४४)
विपुल उवाच अजितेन्द्रिय दुर्बुद्धे पापात्मक पुरन्दर । न चिरं पूजयिष्यन्ति देवास्त्वां मानुषास्तथा
vipula uvāca | ajitendriya durbuddhe pāpātmaka purandara | na ciraṁ pūjayiṣyanti devās tvāṁ mānuṣās tathā ||
Vipula said: “O Purandara, you are sinful at heart, of perverse understanding, and unable to master your senses. If you remain in this condition, the gods—and likewise human beings—will not continue to honor and worship you for long.”
विपुल उवाच
Honor and authority are sustained by inner discipline: one who cannot restrain the senses and acts from a sinful disposition loses the reverence of both gods and humans. Ethical self-mastery is presented as the foundation of lasting esteem.
Vipula directly rebukes Purandara (Indra), calling out his lack of self-control and corrupt judgment, and warns him that continued misconduct will cause both divine and human beings to withdraw their worship and respect.
