Devaśarmā–Vipula Dialogue on Ahorātra–Ṛtu as Moral Witnesses (अनुशासन पर्व, अध्याय ४३)
विपुल उवाच कानि रूपाणि शक्रस्य भवन्त्यागच्छतो मुने । वपुस्तेजश्न कीदृग् वै तन्मे व्याख्यातुमहसि
vipula uvāca kāni rūpāṇi śakrasya bhavanty āgacchato mune | vapus tejaś ca kīdṛg vai tan me vyākhyātum arhasi ||
Vipula said: “O sage, in what forms does Śakra (Indra) appear when he comes? And what are his body and radiance like at that time? Please explain this clearly to me.”
विपुल उवाच
The verse models a dharmic mode of learning: respectful inquiry into the signs of divine presence (form and radiance) so that one may recognize truth and not be misled by mere appearances.
Vipula addresses a sage and asks for a clear description of how Indra appears when he arrives—what forms he assumes and what kind of bodily splendor and radiance accompany him.
