ब्राह्मणपूजा-राजधर्मः | Royal Duty of Honoring Learned Brahmins
उन सबके रूप और प्रभाव एक समान थे, वे सभी बलवान् तथा युद्धमें शोभा पानेवाले थे। उन्होंने धनुर्वेद और वेदके सभी विषयोंमें परिश्रम किया था ।।
teṣāṁ sarveṣāṁ rūpaṁ prabhāvaś ca samānaḥ; sarve balavanto yuddhe śobhāṁ prāptum arhantaḥ. te dhanuḥvede ca vede ca sarvaviṣayeṣu pariśramaṁ kṛtavantaḥ. kāśiṣv api nṛpo rājan divodāsa-pitāmahaḥ; haryaśva iti vikhyāto babhūva jayatāṁ varaḥ.
Bhīṣma said: “All of them were alike in form and in prowess—strong men, fit to shine in battle. They had labored diligently in the science of archery and in every branch of Vedic learning. In those very days, O King, there ruled in Kāśī a monarch famed as Haryaśva, the grandfather of Divodāsa; he was regarded as the foremost among victorious heroes.”
भीष्म उवाच
Excellence in kingship and warfare is grounded in disciplined training: mastery of martial science (dhanuḥveda) should be joined with broad Vedic learning, producing strength tempered by knowledge and rightful conduct.
Bhīṣma describes a group of equally formidable men, trained in both archery and sacred learning, and then situates the account historically by introducing Haryaśva, the famed king of Kāśī and ancestor (grandfather) of Divodāsa.
