Dharma is practiced through disciplined conduct: self-control expressed as devoted service to one’s parents and affectionate harmony with one’s brothers; such conduct is praised as leading to svarga.
In Bhīṣma’s instruction on righteous conduct (Anuśāsana), he enumerates virtues and duties; here he highlights household ethics—serving parents and maintaining fraternal affection—as meritorious behavior with a heavenly result.
