Tīrtha-vaṃśa Upadeśa: Instruction on the Fruits of Sacred Waters

(संश्रुत्य चाप्रदातारो दरिद्राणां विनिन्दका: । श्रोत्रियाणां विनीतानां दरिद्राणां विशेषत: ।।

Translation

Bhishma said: Those who promise to give but do not give; those who revile the poor—especially the śrotriyas, Veda-learned Brahmanas who are poor yet humble and disciplined—and those who slander the forbearing: they surely go to hell. And those who, once their purpose is served, abandon sages—patient, self-restrained, and long associated with them—also fall into hell.
