सहधर्म-प्रश्नः तथा अष्टावक्रोपाख्यान-प्रस्तावः
Inquiry on Sahadharma and the Opening of the Aṣṭāvakra Narrative
इति श्रीमहाभारते अनुशासनपर्वणि दानधर्मपर्वणि महादेवसहस्रनामस्तोत्रे सप्तदशोड्ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate anuśāsanaparvaṇi dānadharmaparvaṇi mahādevasahasranāmastotre saptadaśo 'dhyāyaḥ
Thus ends the seventeenth chapter of the Mahābhārata’s Anuśāsana Parva, within the section on the dharma of gifts, in the hymn of the thousand names of Mahādeva (Śiva).
वायुदेव उवाच
This line is a colophon marking the close of a chapter within the Mahādeva-sahasranāma hymn, situated in the broader discussion of dāna-dharma (the ethics of giving). Its function is structural: it frames the hymn as part of the Mahābhārata’s instructional discourse on dharma and devotion.
Rather than advancing the story, the text signals completion: it announces that the seventeenth chapter of the Mahādeva-sahasranāma-stotra section has concluded within the Anuśāsana Parva’s dāna-dharma portion.
