वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse functions as a narrative seal: it highlights exemplary kingship and ethical authority through the epithet ‘rājaśārdūla’, implying that the actions just described are to be regarded as model conduct within dharma-oriented rulership.
Vaiśaṃpāyana, as narrator, concludes or transitions by stating that the Śāntanu-line ruler acted ‘thus’ at that time—linking this line to the preceding instruction or event and preparing the listener for what follows.
