स्वाध्याये भोजने चैव दक्षिणं पाणिमुद्धरेत् | यच्छेद्वाड्मनसी नित्यमिन्द्रियाणि तथैव च,स्वाध्याय और भोजनके समय दाहिना हाथ उठाना चाहिये तथा मन, वाणी और इन्द्रियोंको सदा अपने अधीन रखना चहिये
svādhyāye bhojane caiva dakṣiṇaṃ pāṇim uddharet | yacched vāk-manasī nityam indriyāṇi tathaiva ca ||
Bhīṣma said: “At the time of Vedic study (svādhyāya) and at the time of taking food, one should raise and employ the right hand in the proper, respectful manner. And one should constantly keep speech and mind restrained, and likewise keep the senses under control.”
भीष्म उवाच
Maintain disciplined conduct: observe respectful propriety during sacred study and meals, and practice continual restraint over speech, mind, and the senses—key foundations of dharmic life.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction section, Bhīṣma continues giving Yudhiṣṭhira practical rules of right conduct (sadācāra), focusing here on everyday disciplines that support inner self-mastery.
