त॑ ममानुग्रहकृते दातुमर्हस्यनिन्दित । अनुशासन्तु मां सनन््तो मिथ्योद्वृत्तं त्वदाश्रयम्
taṁ mamānugrahakṛte dātum arhasy anindita | anuśāsantu māṁ santaḥ mithyodvṛttaṁ tvadāśrayam ||
Bhishma said: “O blameless one, grant me this boon as a mark of your favor. If ever I, taking refuge in you, should stray into false and perverse conduct, then let the virtuous instruct and correct me.”
भीष्म उवाच
A dharmic person should actively seek correction: if one deviates into false conduct, the virtuous should be welcomed as guides who admonish and restore one to the right path.
Bhishma voices a request framed as a boon: he asks that, should he ever go astray while relying on the addressed noble person, the righteous community (santaḥ) may instruct and correct him.
