Bhishma said: “All kings born in the Solar line—those of the Raghus—and likewise those of the Kuru race, being pure in conduct, have always recited daily the Sāvitrī (Gāyatrī) mantra. The Gāyatrī is declared to be the highest refuge and ultimate course for living beings.”

Bhishma presents daily recitation of the Sāvitrī (Gāyatrī) as a time-honored dharmic discipline practiced by exemplary royal lineages, and as a supreme spiritual means leading beings toward their highest good.
In the Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction on dharma and religious duties, Bhishma cites the precedent of renowned dynasties (Raghu and Kuru) to emphasize the authority and importance of regular Gāyatrī recitation.
