Bhīṣma said: Whether one is afflicted by illness or suffering from disease, by reciting this one is freed from sin. And if one recites it within one’s dwelling, it becomes a cause of well-being and auspiciousness for the entire family line.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches the purificatory and protective power of recitation: it removes pāpa (moral demerit) and is believed to promote health and auspicious welfare, extending its benefit from the individual to the whole family when performed within the home.
Bhīṣma, in his instruction on dharma and religious observances, describes the fruit (phala) of reciting the referenced sacred names/formula: relief from sin and the arising of svastyayana—well-being and auspiciousness—for one’s household and lineage.
