Bhishma said: “In the same way, O royal sage, one should also recite and remember the supremely radiant Śveta. Likewise, one should celebrate that mighty royal sage Bhagiratha, by whom the sons of Sagara were bathed in the waters of the Gaṅgā and thus delivered.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse commends kīrtana and smaraṇa—praising and remembering exemplary figures—especially those whose tapas and righteous action bring welfare to others, even across generations (as Bhagiratha’s act benefits Sagara’s sons).
Bhishma instructs the listener to include Śveta and Bhagiratha in recitation and remembrance. Bhagiratha is recalled for securing the Gaṅgā’s waters so that Sagara’s sons could be ritually purified and thereby ‘delivered’ from their afflicted state.
