Discerning Dharma in Accord with Time
ईदृश: पुरुषोत्कर्षो देवि देवत्वमश्रुते । उपपन्नान् सुखान् भोगानुपाश्चाति मुदा युतः:
īdṛśaḥ puruṣotkarṣo devi devatvam aśnute | upapannān sukhān bhogān upāśnāti mudā yutaḥ ||
Maheshvara said: “O Goddess, a man of such excellence attains divine status. Endowed with joy, he partakes of the pleasant enjoyments that come to him of themselves—rightfully obtained—dwelling in the world of the gods.”
श्रीमहेश्वर उवाच
The verse teaches that a person of exemplary conduct—especially one grounded in harmlessness and righteous living—attains a divine state and enjoys legitimate, naturally accruing सुख (happiness) and भोग (enjoyments) in the heavenly realm.
Maheśvara addresses Devī and concludes a praise of an ideal ethical type of person, stating the फल (result): such a person reaches देवत्व (divinity) and experiences joyful enjoyments that are ‘upapanna’—properly obtained—among the gods.
