Mahādeva said: “Those men who are learned through attentive hearing, compassionate in conduct, pure in life, steadfast in truth as their vowed commitment, and content with their own rightful means—such people attain the heavenly worlds.”

Heaven is presented as the fruit of a dhārmic character: learning grounded in disciplined listening, compassion, purity, unwavering truthfulness, and contentment with one’s own rightful means rather than greed or exploitation.
Śrī Mahādeva is delivering a didactic statement in the Anuśāsana Parva, enumerating the virtues that qualify a person for higher worlds, emphasizing ethical self-restraint and truth-centered conduct.
