Discerning Dharma in Accord with Time

Those who, even when angered, do not utter words that tear the heart, and who instead speak soothing, conciliatory speech even in wrath—such people are said to attain heaven. The ethical point is that mastery over speech, especially under provocation, is a mark of dharma and leads to auspicious destiny.
श्रीमहेश्वर उवाच
Control of speech is a central discipline of dharma: even in anger one should avoid harsh, heart-wounding words and instead speak conciliatorily; such restraint is praised as leading to heavenly merit.
Śrīmaheśvara states a moral criterion for virtuous conduct, describing the kind of person who remains gentle in speech despite provocation and declaring the auspicious फल (result) of such behavior—attainment of svarga.
