Mahādeva declares that those people who sustain themselves only on food obtained through righteous means are destined for heaven. In ethical terms, the verse upholds livelihood by dharma—free from coveting others’ wealth and from illicit relations—as a direct cause of spiritual uplift and a higher posthumous state.

Śrīmahēśvara is giving a moral instruction within Anuśāsana Parva, stating the spiritual result (going to heaven) for those who eat only what is righteously obtained.
