न कुट्यां नोदके सड़्ो न वाससि न चासने । न त्रिदण्डे न शयने नाग्नौ न शरणालये
na kuṭyāṃ nodake saṅgo na vāsasi na cāsane | na tridaṇḍe na śayane nāgnau na śaraṇālaye ||
Mahādeva said: “For a man who longs for liberation, there should be no clinging—to a hut, to water, to clothing, or to a seat; nor to the triple staff, nor to a bed, nor to the sacred fire, nor even to any place of shelter. The seeker of mokṣa must abandon possessiveness and dependence on external supports, even those associated with ascetic life.”
श्रीमहेश्वर उवाच
A seeker of liberation should not form attachment even to the minimal supports of ascetic life—dwelling, water, clothing, seat, staff, bed, fire, or shelter. True renunciation is inward: freedom from possessiveness and dependence, not merely changing external lifestyle.
