Vāyu said: “I was wholly engaged in the disciplined observance of vows; and by practicing the vow followed by ascetics, my own spiritual radiance manifested outwardly in the form of fire. Therefore, you should not be distressed or shaken by it.”

Disciplined vow-observance and ascetic practice generate tejas (spiritual potency) that can manifest powerfully; such manifestations should be understood as the natural fruit of tapas and not feared or resented.
Vāyu explains that the appearance of fire is not an external threat but the outward manifestation of his own radiance produced through strict observance of ascetic vows, and he reassures the listeners not to be distressed by it.
