Bhishma said: “Kṛṣṇa-Dvaipāyana (Vyāsa), Dhaumya—foremost among those devoted to sacred recitation—Devala, Kāśyapa, and Hasti-Kāśyapa: to these sages the son of Devakī, pleased at heart, offered hospitality and reverent worship befitting his lineage, arranging for them honors like those given to the gods.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse upholds atithi-dharma: worthy guests—especially sages—should be received with reverence and generosity appropriate to one’s family tradition (kuladharma). Honoring the virtuous is itself a form of righteousness.
Bhīṣma lists eminent ṛṣis and states that Śrī Kṛṣṇa, pleased, arranged their reception and worship with god-like honors, giving them hospitality befitting his noble lineage.
