Bhishma said: “Besides these, Śrī Kṛṣṇa-Dvaipāyana Vyāsa also came there—along with Dhaumya, foremost among those devoted to japa, and with Devala, Kāśyapa, Hasti-Kāśyapa, and other saintly great seers. Endowed with consecration and mastery of the senses, they arrived accompanied by their godlike, austere, and accomplished disciples.”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse underscores that true moral and spiritual authority rests on dīkṣā (consecrated discipline), indriya-saṃyama (sense-restraint), tapas (austerity), and siddhi (attainment). The arrival of such sages and their disciplined disciples signals an assembly grounded in dharma and validated by exemplary conduct.
Bhīṣma continues listing revered figures who came to the gathering: Vyāsa, Dhaumya (praised as foremost among japa practitioners), Devala, Kāśyapa, Hastikāśyapa, and other great seers, all accompanied by their godlike, ascetic, accomplished disciples.
