Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Grandfather, you are supremely wise and deeply versed in all the śāstras. In our noble lineage you stand foremost, enriched by the knowledge of many authoritative traditions (āgamas).”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse establishes Bhīṣma’s authority as a dharma-instructor: ethical guidance should be sought from one who is both profoundly wise and grounded in multiple recognized scriptural traditions (śāstra/āgama), especially within a lineage where duty and precedent matter.
Yudhiṣṭhira respectfully addresses Bhīṣma, praising his learning and wisdom to frame a forthcoming inquiry. This formal acknowledgment sets the tone for instruction in Anuśāsana Parva, where Bhīṣma expounds dharma and right conduct.
