Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
विना भर्त्रां च रुद्रेण भविष्यति न संशय: । वंशे तवैव नाम्ना तु ख्यातिं यास्यति चेप्सिताम्
vinā bhartrāṁ ca rudreṇa bhaviṣyati na saṁśayaḥ | vaṁśe tavaiva nāmnā tu khyātiṁ yāsyati cepsitām ||
Vāsudeva said: “Without a husband—and through Rudra’s agency—it shall come to pass; there is no doubt. In your own lineage, the son will attain the fame you desire, and that fame will be associated with your very name.”
वासुदेव उवाच
The verse emphasizes the certainty of a divinely sanctioned outcome: by Rudra’s power, an extraordinary result can occur even outside ordinary social conditions, and the resulting merit or renown will be anchored in one’s own lineage and name.
Vāsudeva assures a woman addressed as ‘Devi’ that, through Rudra, she will obtain a son even without a husband’s participation, and that the child will bring the desired fame connected with her own name within her lineage.
