Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
ममैवानुचरो नित्यं भवितासीति चाब्रवीत् | तथा पुत्रसहस्राणामयुतं च ददौ प्रभु:
mamaivānucaro nityaṃ bhavitāsīti cābravīt | tathā putrasahasrāṇām ayutaṃ ca dadau prabhuḥ ||
Vāsudeva said: “He also declared, ‘You shall ever be my attendant.’ And that Lord further granted him an ayuta of thousands of sons—an immense progeny—signifying divine favor bestowed for steadfast loyalty and service.”
वासुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical-religious ideal that steadfast service and devotion are honored by the Lord with enduring spiritual proximity (“eternal attendant”) and worldly flourishing (vast progeny). It frames divine reward as both intimate relationship and tangible prosperity.
Vāsudeva recounts that the Lord granted a boon: the recipient would become His perpetual attendant, and additionally received an enormous number of sons—described as an ayuta of thousands—marking extraordinary divine favor.
