Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
ग्रहस्यथातिबलस्याजड्रे वरदत्तस्य धीमत: । न शस्त्राणि वहन्त्यड्रे चक्रवज्ञशतान्यपि
grahasyathātibalasyāḍre varadattasya dhīmataḥ | na śastrāṇi vahantyāḍre cakravajñaśatāny api ||
Vāsudeva said: “That mighty and intelligent Graha, fortified by a boon, was so invulnerable that even hundreds of weapons—keen as the discus and the thunderbolt—could not pierce his body. Thus, sheer force and arms are futile against one guarded by divine favor.”
वासुदेव उवाच
The verse underscores that brute force and even the finest weapons may fail against one protected by a divine boon; ethical discernment and understanding of higher powers (boons, vows, dharma) are crucial, not merely martial strength.
Vāsudeva describes a formidable figure named Graha, who—having received a boon—cannot be harmed even by numerous powerful weapons likened to the cakra and vajra, emphasizing his extraordinary invulnerability.
