Maheshvara said: “Having distilled the essence, you have set forth the noble path of dharma. Now, all of you, listen from me to this hidden inner mystery of dharma.”
महेश्वर उवाच
Dharma has an outer, publicly teachable form and an inner, subtle ‘secret’ (guhā). After the sages have presented the distilled essence of righteous conduct, Maheshvara signals a deeper level of instruction—implying that true dharma requires insight beyond mere rules.
At the opening of the chapter, Maheshvara addresses the assembled listeners (sages and divine beings). He acknowledges their prior exposition of dharma and then introduces his own forthcoming revelation of dharma’s hidden mystery, setting the stage for a more profound teaching.
