The Brahmin said: “I think you keep your mind upon those people whose inner selves are veiled by desire and anger, and who, having strayed onto wrong paths, are suffering hardship. Because you are constantly contemplating such afflicted beings, you have grown thin and pale.”
ब्राह्मण उवाच
Desire and anger cloud the inner self and push people onto harmful paths that lead to suffering; the verse highlights compassionate concern for such deluded sufferers and implies the ethical need for self-mastery and right conduct.
A Brahmin addresses someone who appears weakened and pale, inferring that this condition comes from constant mental preoccupation with people who, overcome by desire and anger, are suffering due to their misguided ways.
