उपवासफलात्मकविधिः — Upavāsa as Yajña-Equivalent Merit
Angiras Teaching
imaṃ tu kaunteya yathākramaṃ vidhiṃ pravartitaṃ haṅgirasā maharṣiṇā | paṭhec ca yo vai śṛṇuyāc ca nityadā na vidyate tasya narasya kilbiṣam ||
O son of Kuntī, this observance—set forth in due order as a proper rule by the great seer Aṅgiras—whoever recites it and also listens to it every day, for that person no stain of sin remains.
अंगियरा उवाच
Regular recitation and attentive listening to a properly prescribed vow (vidhi), as taught by a revered sage, functions as a discipline of dharma that purifies one’s moral faults (kilbiṣa) and supports a life free from sorrow.
Aṅgiras addresses Kaunteya (Yudhiṣṭhira), commending an established observance and stating its fruit: the person who daily reads and hears the rule of this vow gains purification, with sin not remaining for him.
