ब्रह्मस्वहरण-निषेधः — Prohibition of Appropriating Brahmin Property
Brahmasva
इति श्रीमहा भारते अनुशासनपर्वणि दानधर्मपर्वणि राजन्यचाण्डालसंवादो नामैकोत्तरशततमो< ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate anuśāsanaparvaṇi dānadharmaparvaṇi rājanya-cāṇḍāla-saṃvādo nāma ekottaraśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ |
Thus, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Anuśāsana Parva and the section on the dharma of gifts, the one-hundred-and-first chapter—entitled “The Dialogue between a Kṣatriya (rājanya) and a Cāṇḍāla”—is concluded. This colophon marks the completion of a teaching episode that frames ethical reflection on conduct and generosity through a pointed social and moral exchange.
भीष्म उवाच
This verse is a colophon rather than a doctrinal statement: it signals that the instructional dialogue on dāna-dharma (the ethics of giving) between a Kṣatriya and a Cāṇḍāla has concluded, framing the preceding discussion as authoritative guidance within Bhīṣma’s teachings.
Bhīṣma’s discourse reaches the end of a chapter. The text formally closes Adhyāya 101 of the dāna-dharma section, identifying the completed unit as the “Rājanya–Cāṇḍāla dialogue.”
