Bhīṣma said: One day a sage, drawn by the prospect of holy company, arrived at that man’s hermitage. The Śūdra received him with due rites of welcome and hospitality, honored the seer, and satisfied him. After speaking in a friendly manner, he asked about the purpose of the sage’s visit. Then that supremely radiant, righteous sage—firm in austere vows—came again and again to the Śūdra’s hermitage, simply to meet him.

True dharma is shown through proper hospitality, reverence, and gentle speech; such conduct attracts the wise and earns spiritual merit irrespective of one’s social designation.
A sage visits a Śūdra’s hermitage seeking holy company; the host welcomes and honors him correctly, asks courteously about his visit, and the pleased sage returns repeatedly to meet him.
