देवयान्याश्चानुमते सुतां तां वृषपर्वण: । अशोकवनिकाशभ्याशे गृहं कृत्वा न्यवेशयत्‌,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! ययातिकी राजधानी महेन्द्रपुरी (अमरावती)-के समान थी। उन्होंने वहाँ आकर देवयानीको तो अन्तःपुरमें स्थान दिया और उसीकी अनुमतिसे अशोकवाटिकाके समीप एक महल बनवाकर उसमें वृषपर्वाकी पुत्री शर्मिष्ठाको उसकी एक हजार दासियोंके साथ ठहराया और उन सबके लिये अन्न, वस्त्र तथा पेय आदिकी अलग-अलग व्यवस्था करके शर्मिष्ठाका समुचित सत्कार किया

Vaiśampāyana said: With Devayānī’s consent, he had a residence built near the Aśoka-grove and installed there Śarmiṣṭhā, the daughter of Vṛṣaparvan.
