Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Pṛthā, entrusted at home with the duty of honoring brāhmaṇas and guests, once attended with every effort upon the sage known as Durvāsas—one who kept his resolve in matters of dharma concealed, outwardly fierce and quick to anger, yet inwardly noble and praised by all. By diligent service she succeeded in pleasing him.

Educational Q&A

True dharma is shown through disciplined hospitality and respectful service, even toward those who appear harsh; outward temperament may conceal inner greatness, so one should act with steadiness and full effort.

Pṛthā, responsible for receiving brāhmaṇas and guests, serves the formidable sage Durvāsas—known for concealed resolve in dharma and an outwardly fierce nature—and by wholehearted attention succeeds in satisfying him.
