Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
प्रत्यूचु: सहिता: सर्वे ताराधिपमपूजयन् । एवं ते कथितं राजंस्तव जन्म पितु: पितु:,“तथा बड़े-बड़े महारथी वीरोंका संहार कर डालेगा। आधे दिनमें ही महाबाहु अभिमन्यु समस्त शत्रुओंके एक चौथाई भागको यमलोक पहुँचा देगा। तदनन्तर बहुत-से महारथी एक साथ ही उसपर टूट पड़ेंगे और वह महाबाहु उन सबका सामना करते हुए संध्या होते-होते पुनः मुझसे आ मिलेगा। वह एक ही वंशप्रवर्तक वीर पुत्रको जन्म देगा, जो नष्ट हुए भरतकुलको पुनः धारण करेगा।” सोमका यह वचन सुनकर समस्त देवताओंने “तथास्तु/ कहकर उनकी बात मान ली और सबने चन्द्रमाका पूजन किया। राजा जनमेजय! इस प्रकार मैंने तुम्हारे पिताके पिताका जन्म-रहस्य बताया है
pratyūcuḥ sahitāḥ sarve tārādhipam apūjayan | evaṃ te kathitaṃ rājan tava janma pituḥ pituḥ |
Vaiśampāyana said: United as one, all the gods replied in assent and worshipped the Lord of the stars, the Moon. Thus, O King, I have related to you the account of the birth of your father’s father—showing how divine consent and reverence for cosmic order stand behind the continuation of a royal lineage.
