Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition

नकुल: सहदेवश्व सर्वभूतमनोहरौ । यस्तु वर्चा इति ख्यात: सोमपुत्र: प्रतापवान्‌,भीमसेनको वायुका और अर्जुनको देवराज इन्द्रका अंश जानो। रूप-सौन्दर्यकी दृष्टिसे इस पृथ्वीपर जिनकी समानता करनेवाला कोई नहीं था, वे समस्त प्राणियोंका मन मोह लेनेवाले नकुल और सहदेव अश्विनीकुमारोंके अंशसे उत्पन्न हुए थे। वर्चा नामसे विख्यात जो चन्द्रमाका प्रतापी पुत्र था, वही महायशस्वी अर्जुनकुमार अभिमन्यु हुआ। जनमेजय! उसके अवतार-कालनमें चन्द्रमाने देवताओंसे इस प्रकार कहा--

vaishampāyana uvāca |

nakulaḥ sahadevaś ca sarvabhūtamanoharau |

varchā iti khyātaḥ somaputraḥ pratāpavān |

Vaiśampāyana said: Nakula and Sahadeva—delighting the minds of all beings—were born as portions of the Aśvinīkumāras, unmatched on earth in beauty and charm. And Varchā, the mighty son of Soma (the Moon), became Abhimanyu, the illustrious son of Arjuna.
