gacchāsya brāhmaṇasya sāhāyyaṃ kuruṣveti | atha vajraṃ daṇḍakāṣṭham anupraviśya tad bilaṃ adārayat |

Indra commanded the Vajra, “Go and aid this brāhmaṇa.” Then the Vajra entered into the staff-wood and split that burrow open, opening a passage downward.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma as practical compassion: when a brāhmaṇa seeks help, one should respond promptly and effectively, removing obstacles rather than offering mere words.

Rāma instructs Vajra to assist a brāhmaṇa. Vajra then enters into the staff-wood and cleaves open a burrow, creating an opening—understood in the accompanying tradition as a route leading downward (toward the nether regions).
