Garuḍa’s Breach of the Amṛta-Guard and Boons with Viṣṇu; Encounter with Indra (Ādi-parva, Adhyāya 29)
कश्यप उवाच इदं सरो महापुण्यं देवलोकेडपि विश्रुतम्,कश्यपजी बोले--बेटा! यह महान् पुण्यदायक सरोवर है, जो देवलोकमें भी विख्यात है
Kaśyapa uvāca: idaṁ saraḥ mahāpuṇyaṁ devaloke ’pi viśrutam.
Kashyapa said: “My child, this lake is exceedingly sacred and a source of great merit; its fame is known even in the world of the gods.”
कश्यप उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical-spiritual idea that certain places are recognized as powerful centers of purity and merit (puṇya). Reverence toward such sacred sites supports dharmic living by encouraging humility, restraint, and a focus on inner and outer purification.
Kashyapa addresses a listener (implicitly a younger person, “my child”) and introduces a particular lake, praising it as highly sacred and renowned even among the gods, thereby preparing the ground for further description or events connected with that holy place.
