Vaiśampāyana said: “O King, the Fire-god was greatly pleased with that sage of immeasurable splendor. With a delighted heart he addressed him: ‘What desired purpose of yours shall I accomplish?’”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Sincere praise and right conduct can lead to divine goodwill, but the ethical emphasis is on directing any granted power or boon toward a worthy, dharmic aim rather than mere self-indulgence.
In Vaiśampāyana’s recitation to the king, Agni becomes pleased with the sage’s words and offers to fulfill the sage’s desired request, setting up the next action in the Mandapāla episode.
