Saṃvaraṇa–Tapatī Vivāhaḥ (The Marriage of Saṃvaraṇa and Tapatī) — Mahābhārata, Ādi Parva 163
ततः स पुनरुद्यम्य वृक्षान् बहुविधान् बली । प्राहिणोद् भीमसेनाय तस्मै भीमश्न पाण्डव:,तब उस बलवान् निशाचरने पुनः बहुत-से वृक्षोंको उखाड़ा और भीमसेनपर चला दिया। पाण्डुनन्दन भीमने भी उसपर अनेक वृक्षोंद्वारा प्रहार किया
tataḥ sa punar udyamya vṛkṣān bahuvidhān balī | prāhiṇod bhīmasenāya tasmai bhīmaśna pāṇḍavaḥ ||
Then that mighty night-ranger, once again wrenching up many kinds of trees, hurled them at Bhīmasena. But Bhīma, the Pāṇḍava famed as a devourer of foes, struck back at him in turn with numerous trees.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
When confronted by violent aggression, steadfast courage and the duty to protect one’s own can require firm resistance; strength is shown not merely in attack but in resolute defense against adharma.
A powerful niśācara (rākṣasa) uproots and hurls various trees at Bhīma; Bhīma retaliates in kind, striking him with many trees as the fight intensifies.
